Buy or Build: How Media Companies Will Grow Online

As News Corp.’s Fox Interactive Media passes Yahoo for the most page views online, News Corp.’s chief operating officer Peter Chernin talks about their way forward:

“The feeling was that we were entering a stage when this was less about deals … and more about maximizing what we have. Now our focus is how to we build out the asset.”

Seth Sutel of the Associated Press looks at the options for other large media organizations:

“For many media companies, a big question for 2007 will be how to grow their revenues from online and interactive sources, and whether to do it by buying businesses, building up ones they already have or coming up with new models from scratch.”
