He focuses in on the second type, and how bloggers can monetize the attention they receive in ways other than display advertising:

  • Corporate bloggers – using the medium as another form of public relations for their company.
  • Deal flow filters – which allow people like venture capitalists to expand their funnel of potential entrepreneur, and communicate what they are looking for.
  • Marketing for consulting work – blogs build credibility around the author and expand your list of potential clients.
