Innovation or Common Sense?

The Wall Street Journal has an interesting debate between Dave Winer and Robert Scoble on the value of Microsoft. The word innovation was used 18 times in the article.

Some of the topics now being referred to as “innovation” are just stretching the word too far. If I work at a restaurant and stack the drinking glasses in a slightly better fashion, have I “innovated.” If I put ice in the glass before the soda, is that “innovation,” or just common sense. If the restaurant across the street copies the way I stack glasses, have they now “innovated” too?

The Microsoft-Google-Apple-Yahoo debate is becoming increasingly circular – and serves the same purpose of our other all time favorite coversation: Coke or Pepsi?
