The New York Times has embraced social media, by adding submission links to Digg, Facebook ,and Newsvine within their stories.
“…the capability to do it directly from the story means that The Times is paying attention to where its stories are shared, who reads them, and, more importantly, what they are saying about them.”
Of course, the question remains – what is in it for the Times:
“Aside from the vanity thrill of seeing its headlines pop up at the top of Digg, the benefit eludes me.”
Looks as thought it is a way for the Times to tiptoe into social media:
“At this time, there is limited ability for readers to comment directly on news stories on the NYTimes.com Web site. By partnering with third parties, the newspaper hopes to keep discussions going around its stories.”
