Nick Denton is making some changes over at Valleywag. In addition to a site redesign and shift in editorial focus, he has ousted the young editor of the site and looking for a replacement:
“we’re now looking for someone with, ideally, some background in reporting. An old-media career, useful in the sparkling new world of blogs. Who would have thought?”
Matt Marshall caught up with Nick, asking about the sudden shift:
“I felt the site could be more….more popular, more authoritative…”
Is this a sign of a maturing medium – that blogs have become so powerful that people do not want to squander their potential? Or is this the beginning of the end for the little guy – a smart kid who can write a great blog, but does not have a strong resume in journalism? Or, more likely, is this simply Nick looking for more press to further the success of his Gawker Media blogs?
