I was surprised to read that Apple’s lawsuit with Apple rumor website Think Secret has resulted in the site shutting down. Think Secret has long been a reliable source of Apple information, and from what I understand, run by a college student with a knack for reporting.
The website Techcrunch gives a “deadpool” designation to failed startups. For a fan of Think Secret, this seems like an “online journalism deadpool.” Think Secret broke a lot of Apple news, and had a very professional sensibility.
In a huge footnote, the publisher of the site was able to keep all of his sources a secret, even when confronting the legal division of a huge company like Apple. This is a phenomenal example of the journalism landscape, as it exists for small online publishers. I think this story is just getting started.
